PowerOasis Manager

PowerOasis Controller (R) PowerOasis Controller (R)

The renewable energy power controller. Convert your existing or green field sites to use wind and/or solar power to reduce your diesel consumption by
up to 100%

PowerOasis Controller (R) manages all aspects of renewable energy generation, storage, and load management. Designed from the ground up to support off-grid mobile base stations or those connected to an unreliable grid. It incorporates a number of mobile telecommunications specific features such as separate BTS and backhaul power supplies and configurable alarming/monitoring capabilities to the OMC via the BTS.

The controller’s advanced monitoring and control algorithms are implemented in software running on a robust control processor to integrate solar, wind, diesel generator and unreliable grid power sources and provide telco-grade power supplies to the mobile base station. Battery life is maximised through sophisticated charge control management and using remotely configurable low and high voltage disconnects to protect the batteries from overcharge and excessive discharge.

The controller includes a number of resilience features to maximise equipment and base station up-time such as self monitoring and controlled BTS shutdown under low voltage conditions. For system management PowerOasis Controller (R) includes an engineering terminal web server to enable configuration changes and software updates to be applied, tight integration with PowerOasis Manager remote management system for parameter monitoring, alarms and reconfiguration and connects to the OMC alarming and signalling system via the BTS.

PowerOasis Controller (R)

Multi-Source Integration

PowerOasis Controller (R) intelligently integrates and controls solar and wind renewable power sources. Additional levels of availability may be provided by including a generator. As the generator is under full, autonomous control of PowerOasis Controller (R) it is only used when absolutely necessary to maintain site availability such as during prolonged adverse weather conditions. The generator can also be instructed not to be used during quiet time.

Superior Efficiency

PowerOasis Controller (R) is based on PowerOasis's proprietary software algorithms that maximise power transfer and storage through dynamically variable voltage set points, giving significant efficiency improvements over conventional solar or wind controllers. This allows the use of smaller power generation and storage elements to reduce overall cost. The controller also performs periodic battery conditioning to maximise battery life and capacity. Should environmental conditions change the voltage set points can be modified remotely.

BTS-Backhaul Control

Independent BTS and backhaul power supply control is provided to maximise network availability. In the event of power reduction PowerOasis Controller (R) can signal the BTS to initiate a controlled load reduction or controlled shutdown, whilst preserving power to the backhaul. Under reduced power the BTS can shut down non-BCCH carriers, reduce Tx power or move calls to adjacent cells. Preserving backhaul power ensures that traffic continues to flow from daisy-chained sites to the core network.

Remote Monitoring

Designed specifically to support high availability base stations, PowerOasis Controller (R) provides full status and alarm monitoring via relay connections to the associated BTS, which can be mapped at the OMC to appear alongside existing information displayed for each BTS site. A web server is also included for on-site engineering, such as changing voltage set points and applying firmware updates. Integration with PowerOasis Manager remote management system is also provided for parameter monitoring, alarm management and system re-configuration.
