Jim McKenna - Chairman

Jim McKenna is the Chairman of PowerOasis. He was Chief Operating Officer at Logica Plc from 1993 to 2008. Jim McKenna has been a leader in the electronic and technology sector for many years having worked for GEC-Marconi and the Plessey Company Plc. He is also the Chairman of Azzurri Communications and Chairman of Catch22 – the national charity for under-supported young children. He has previously been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Parsons Brinkerhoff, Chairman of the Adab Trust and Chairman of the Board of Governors at the University of East London. He was a Non-Executive Director of AWG Plc between 2000 and 2007.


Nick Smailes

Nick Smailes is PowerOasis’s CEO. He has worked with early stage venture capital funds in the UK and US and with UK Government since 2001 when he set up SETsquared an organisation focussed on developing start-up companies based on industrial and academic IPR. SETsquared has enjoyed successes supporting start-ups raise over £350m, including 5 IPO’s.


Pete Bishop

Pete is CTO of PowerOasis, an innovator and thought-leader in the application of renewable power in telecoms. He has a background in leading edge military radio design and has extensive telecoms knowledge having worked in the cellular radio industry since 1989 leading teams bringing GSM, UMTS, WiMAX and LTE products to market. He has spent the last 4 years developing and trialling micro renewable energy systems in conjunction with university research groups and cellular infrastructure equipment manufacturers. He is a chartered engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and holds six patents.


David Ward

David is a Managing Partner & Head of materials/cleantech at venture capital fund manager MTI. Now heading MTI’s US operation in Boston, David joined the firm in 1999 and has extensive experience in originating and managing investments. Prior to MTI he was CEO of a materials start-up and an executive director of two buy-out transactions (backed by Morgan Grenfell and Granville Baird). After gaining a BA/MA in Materials Science from the University of Oxford, David started his corporate career at industrial materials group Cookson Plc.


Jon Craton

Jon Craton has over 24 years experience of the telecoms industry in general and Operations Support Systems in particular. In 1996 he founded Cramer Systems and was a senior executive with the company until it’s sale to Amdocs in 2006 for $425 million. Since then Jon has been an angel investor, working in the technology sector. Jon is extensively involved with PowerOasis - he is a non-executive director of the company and one its largest investors. He brings to PowerOasis a wealth of experience in managing rapid growth whilst maintaining very high standards of customer satisfaction.


John O’Donohue

John O’Donohue is Head of Arcapita Ventures, the venture capital arm of Arcapita Bank B.S.C. (www.arcapita.com). John brings over twenty years of operational and strategic experience in telecoms and technology. He established Motorola Ventures in Europe and has invested in over twenty of Europe’s leading venture companies. He has served on the board of many venture backed companies, including Apertio prior to their acquisition by Nokia Siemens Networks and Sonaptic prior to their acquisition by Wolfsen Microelectronics. He received his first degree in engineering from University College Dublin in 1985 and an MBA with distinction, from Imperial College London in 1993.
