PowerOasis Smartgrid

PowerOasis has launched the world’s first smart grid platform for telecoms operators, which enables them to reduce site power costs and ensure network power resilience. PowerOasis solutions enable telecoms operators to take advantage of the smart grid to reduce their overall energy bill.

The PowerOasis controller is deployed on telecoms sites and it intelligently decides when to power the site from the grid or from a battery bank. The controller can be pre-programmed or interrogate real time or forward price trading platforms. It will optimise energy consumption from the grid to reduce the total power operating costs.

The PowerOasis Smart Grid controller takes account of the following grid conditions:

  • Dynamic Response – Discretionary reduction in power
  • Dynamic Demand – request from the utility company to reduce demand
  • Peak Shaving – power threshold programme based on agreement between Telco and Utility company
  • Time of Use – time threshold programme based on agreement between Telco and Utility company

The following diagram illustrates the key components of an Unreliable Grid Hybrid Power solution.

PowerOasis Smart Grid controller takes into account the required grid autonomy and introduces a ‘cyclic additional capacity’ layer on top to enable the site to come off the grid with takes advantage of the latest development in battery technologies to make the TCO models attractive for telecoms operators.

Lower Network CO2

PowerOasis enables wireless operators to reduce their network CO2 footprint and also track and monitor the improvements. The smart Grid controller also enables an easy upgrade to deploy solar and wind solutions to further reduce energy consumption and cut network CO2.
